Welcome to a Bible Banger's Death Charge. These are short, focused studies from deependable ministries. Small in length, big on truth. Today's Death Charge Explores Why Jesus stopped. Reading in the synagogue. Close the book. Grab your Bible and let's get cracking. Death charge number one. And it was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.

And then he closed the book. Oh, praise the Lord, he closed the book there.

For the rest of the verse reads, And the day of vengeance of our God. He came to proclaim not vengeance, but our salvation, our peace, are being set free. The day of vengeance has been quiet for now. Choose Christ, choose his ways, choose his delivery, mercy, healing, salvation through his life, his teaching, and his death and resurrection. And the book of judgment is yet to be open. It's closed for now. Let's rest in him, our Sabbath today. Death charge number two. In 2 Kings chapter 4, when the prophets sat down to eat, they didn't know that death had already been mixed into the pot. And the man who gathered it, he thought it was good. Because deception rarely announces itself. And they cried out, There's death in the pot. What was supposed to sustain them was now destroying them from the inside. This is not the only time scripture warns a wild growth. A vine inside of them, wild grapes instead of fruit, tear stone while men slept, and men creeping in unawares. Always the same pattern. Something false. Growing inside something true. But Elusha didn't discard the pot. He didn't throw it away. He cast in bread. And the scripture says, there was no harm in the pot. It's the same today. Whatever poison enters in through deception is healed by the broken bread. Jesus said, I am the bread of life. I am the true vine. Not everything in a famine is safe to eat. Not everything that fills your hunger comes from God. Not every voice in the field is speaking truth. In the end, discernment is the difference between nourishment and death in the pot. Death charge number three. Esther is the only book in the Old Testament where the divine name never appears. And yet, in this book of only 167 verses, the Persian king is mentioned nearly 200 times. His kingdom is referenced more than 25 times. And the name Ahasirus appears nearly 30. The Empire is loud. But God appears silent. Why? Because centuries earlier, in Deuteronomy, God warned Israel, if they forsake me, I will hide my face from them. And in Esther, the warning becomes visible. Or so it seems. Because hidden beneath the surface of the text itself, the divine name is still there, embedded in an acrostic form. Y H B H. Not openly declared, not loudly proclaimed, but concealed within the structure of the story. Hidden, but never absent. It's certainly the point of Esther. That even when God seems invisible, his hand is still there, guiding, protecting, healing, leading. Even in silence, he is still there.
